Today I came up with something good to avoid connectivity problems with Nokia Software Updater and my Nokia E72. It's always better to download the Nokia Software Updater in offline (Save link as) mode and not updating it directly from the application itself. Remember when installing/uninstalling Nokia PC Software (E.g. NSU, PC Suit, etc..) to unplug your device from the cable.
To update your Nokia E72 firmware when having problems in running NSU (E.g. Cannot detect...):
1) Uninstall all Nokia Software on your PC
2) Restart your PC
3) Make sure your Nokia E72 is unplugged from your PC
4) Download and install the Nokia Connectivity Cable driver
5) Install Nokia Software Updater's latest version
6) Your PC will restart
7) NSU will start on Windows startup, you can test it by plugging your Nokia E72, it should detect it now
8) Exit and install the Nokia PC Suite if you like - to take a backup before updating the firmware - with your Nokia E72 plugged, it will install in seconds.
Note: I'm using Windows Vista SP2.
Hope that's helpful.
Best regards,
Ayham.
